The functions of the Fire Department are the prevention and extinguishment of fires; the enforcement of all laws and ordinances relating to the prevention and extinguishment of fires and storage, sale, and use of oils, combustible materials and explosives; the investigation of the causes of all fires and the reporting of the same to the Police Department in all cases where there is reason to believe that any fire is the result of a crime or that a crime has been committed in connection therewith; the inspection of all hydrants, stand pipes, and other water supply systems; the performance of disaster and mutual aid services in accordance with approved plans or agreements; and the performance of such other functions as may be assigned by the City Manager or prescribed by ordinance of the City Council or by applicable State law.
